I have no idea why kids can suddenly become afraid of the dark but it has happened in our household. Of late Maddy has been telling me she cannot go upstairs on her own as mummys bedroom is scary and she has to walk past it to get to her room. This sudden change in her behaviour is suprising as she has always slept in the dark and has never had a problem going up to her bedroom in the dark and turning the light on in her room.
Last night we put her to bed and about an hour later she woke up screaming and came downstairs. She was still half asleep and was wet from sweat. We think that maybe she had had a nightmare. I carried her upstairs and on the trip she told me that her bedroom was scary. I asked her why and she just said that it was. I put her into bed and then she asked me to leave the door open so that it wasn't dark. This was very unusual.
About an hour alter again she woke up and daddy went to check on her. She needed another bottle and asked for mummy. But mummy didn't come until she was heading to bed. When I walked into her room she turned over and said 'its not in the morning yet' and I said yes. She then asked if it was still night time, Yes I said and then she rolled over and was fast asleep. I still do not know if she was asleep or awake when she was talking to me!!
